Started work on The Simple Gift today. An important part of this text is the idea that Steven Herrick wanted to explore the idea that teenagers have valid ideas and opinions and can teach adults about the world. We discussed this idea as a class and everyone agreed that teenagers do have opinions that should be valued, however adults simply don't want to listen.
We then read the first two chapters of the text and discussed the ideas of belonging and not belonging that come up. This will be discussed further in class tomorrow.
